Saturday, we spent the day on Carters Lake enjoying the sunshine and natural vistas of the lake and shoreline. We enjoy Carters Lake mainly because houses cannot be built on the shoreline. There are a few houses you can glimpse through the trees, however for the most part, you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. It is easy to forget the day-to-day realities and lose yourself at the lake.
We brought our friend’s daughter along so she could enjoy the day with us. She had stitches in her foot and wasn’t supposed to get it wet, so we stopped by the marina once we were out on the lake to find out if they had anything to keep her foot dry. They kindly offered us saran wrap, a bread bag and rubber bands - for no charge! Thank you Carters Lake Marina! They sell all kinds of snacks, have water toys for rent and for sale, as well as house boat rentals.
The water temp. was perfect, so we spent an hour just floating around in our life jackets and relaxing.
We saw kayakers exploring the lake. Plus, there were also many people on the beach enjoying the water, so even if you don’t have a boat or don’t want to rent one, you can still enjoy this peaceful lake in Ellijay, GA. The Blue Moose Crew highly recommends spending time on Carters Lake.

The Blue Moose Crew was on the scene today at the Blairsville Scottish Festival. Beautiful day with lots to see. Fun music for our listening pleasure and dancing to watch. The athletes are quite impressive. Ate the Scones with Strawberries and Cream - I know - not too exotic, but delicious anyway! We love Meeks park - enjoy the walk along the river while you are there.

Last weekend we spent an evening at the Lilly Pad Cafe on Aska Rd in Blue Ridge. It was a dark and stormy night, but we were snuggled in tight under our table umbrella and didn’t even get wet. The house was packed. The live music was great. Gena and Geza are excellent hosts and stopped to visit with us a number of times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The bull frogs were even croaking away. Eventually it stopped raining and the dancing began. We also met some visitors from Michigan who were enjoying their visit to Blue Ridge - and had checked out our www.BlueMooseToDo.com website (yea!). Follow the Moose on the Move checking out fun in the area.

After living in the suburbs my whole life, it is so amazing to live in Ellijay. Last week one evening around 7 pm, a black bear stopped by for a bird food snack. We have lived in this house for three years and this is the first time a bear has come up to visit. When we did a little on-line bear research, we discovered that we have everything a bear might desire: dog food left outside, bird feeders, a compost pile, an outdoor trash can and a BBQ grill.
This particular bear however was apparently not very hungry. He only ate the finch food and wouldn’t even consider the corn, peanuts and seeds scattered on the ground. He very gently snapped the bottom off each finch feeder and poured the contents into his mouth. He didn’t break everything in sight as we had heard bears will do. He peered into the other empty feeders, but left them hanging. The squirrel proof feeder with the moving perch was little too scary, so that was left in its place as well. He sniffed the flowers in the area, but didn’t step on them. This was one very considerate bear!
We screwed the bird feeders back together and refilled them and hung them back out for the birds. We haven’t seen our bear friend again. Our on-line research also revealed that the typical male black bear covers a territory of approx. 20,000 acres, so we figure it might be a while before he makes it back to our little corner of the woods. Happy trails Mr. Bear!
