Ellijay Carters Lake - 3,200 acre lake is 11 miles long with 62 miles of shoreline. One of the nice features of this lake for boaters is that you cannot build houses down near the water, so you hardly see any houses while you are on the lake. There is a Public beach at Harris branch off Hwy. 382 off S. Main street out of Ellijay - follow signs for Harris Branch Recreation Area- with camping, picnic areas, fishing, boating and waterskiing. Trophy spotted bass. Best fishing times Feb. - Nov. for bass, stripers, and hybrid striped bass and Feb. - Mar. for walleye. Blueback herring are not allowed as bait. On the Chatsworth side of the lake, Carters Lake Marina has pontoon and houseboat rentals. This is the only commercial facility on the lake. There is a small store, water ski, tubes and many fun tow-behind inflatables for rent, refreshments and fuel for sale at the marina. It is located at 575 Marina Rd. Blairsville Lake Nottely- is 20 miles long covering 4,180 acres. It is a TVA reservoir that is great for boating, skiing, fishing. Construction of Lake Nottely Dam began in 1941 and was completed in 1942. The dam is 184 feet high and stretches 2,300 feet across the Nottely River. Lake Nottely has 106 miles of shoreline. There are two marinas and several public boat launches. There are homes along the shoreline of this lake, however the Chattahoochee National Forest borders part of the lake, offering some more natural shoreline. The water level can vary 14 ft. over the season.

Blue Ridge Lake Blue Ridge - 3,290 acre lake has 100 miles of shoreline and a full service marina. This lake has many large beautiful houses lining the shoreline. There are Boating, Fishing, Public Beach, and picnic areas at Morganton Point. This has been called the best destination in Georgia for smallmouth bass. Other favorites found here are largemouth bass, spotted bass, white bass (April - Oct.), bream (May - June) and walleye (Feb. - Mar.) To help the native smallmouth bass, anglers are encouraged to keep their daily bag limit of the introduced spotted bass. Access just east of Blue Ridge off Hwy. 76. Hiawassee Lake Chatuge- Chatuge Reservoir, managed by the TVA, is located on the Hiwassee River in western North Carolina, is 13 miles long and extends southeast from the dam into north Georgia. The reservoir is named after a nearby Cherokee settlement. Construction of Chatuge Dam began in 1941 and was completed in 1942. Chatuge was originally built to store water to help prevent flooding downstream. A single hydropower generating unit was added in 1954. The level of water in Chatuge Reservoir varies about 9 feet during the course of a normal year. Chatuge Dam is 144 feet high and stretches 2,850 feet across the Hiwassee River. Chatuge has a flood-storage capacity of 62,619 acre-feet. The generating capacity of Chatuge Dam is 10,000 kilowatts of electricity. The lake spans the border between Georgia and North Carolina.

Ellijay Cartecay River - 11 mile run east of Ellijay ranges from Class I - III. The Cartecay on the Rich Mountain WMA receives some stocked trout and is also a good choice for bream and redeye bass. Best fished by wading or floating with a canoe. Best time for trout is April - Oct. and for bass and bream May - Oct. Take Hwy 52 southeast of Ellijay for two miles. Turn right at the Rich Mtn. WMA sign and follow road back to the canoe access.

Coosawattee River Tubing - An alternative to rafting, tubing down the Coosawattee River is a lot of fun and for the low price of $10.00 per person, we furnish you a tube, a life vest, and shuttle service to and from the river. We also offer kayak trips by reservation. Each trip lasts 1-1/2 hours and is $25.00 per trip which includes equipment and shuttle to and from the river. The season opens May 1st and runs through October. Blue Ridge Toccoa River - above Lake Blue Ridge has Class I - III rapids. Fun for tubing and canoeing. See forests, pastures, wildlife, mountain laurel and rhododendrum as you float along. Great location for float fishing. April - Oct. is the best time for trout fishing. Access from Aska road or via county roads off Hwy. 60.
Blue Ridge Toccoa River - below Lake Blue Ridge is arguably the best tailwater trout fishery in Georgia. Plenty of rainbow and brown trout. Year 'round fishing. Club Georgia Canoeing Association - The purpose of the GCA is to have fun and promote safety while paddling. GCA is a member-operated paddling club with over 800 family and corporate memberships comprising more than 2000 indivduals.
